Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Alex Bekker, PhD, MD

Dr. Alex Bekker is Professor of Anesthesiology and Neurosurgery and Vice Chair for Research at NYU School of Medicine.  He earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark and his MD from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.  He completed his residency in anesthesiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.  He has a longstanding interest in the perioperative management of geriatric patients. Dr. Bekker has served as the principal investigator of numerous clinical trials of the role of new anesthetics in perioperative care of the elderly, with the aim of reducing recovery time from surgery and anesthesia and perioperative cognitive dysfunction.  The author of more than 50 original papers in peer-reviewed journals, he is regularly called upon to provide anesthesia for the most complex and challenging neurosurgical procedures.  Dr, Bekker is nationally recognized as an expert in clinical pharmacology, neuroanesthesia, and perioperative organ protection.  Dr. Bekker's NYU \ site.

Thomas J.J. Blanck, PhD, MD
Dr. Thomas Blanck is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at NYU School of Medicine.  He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and his doctoral degree in biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.  A distinguished leader in the field of anesthesiology, he has served as chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Association of University Anesthesiologists and as a member of numerous National Institute of Health (NIH) study sections.  Over the course of his career, he has contributed to more than 50 publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals and has been the principal investigator on 16 NIH or private foundation grants.  As a member of the NYU Pain Management Center, he is devoted to maintaining a truly interdisciplinary diagnostic and treatment facility designed to help those suffering from acute and chronic pain.  Dr. Blanck’s NYU Web site

John G. Golfinos, MD

Dr. John G. Golfinos is Chairman of Neurosurgery and Professor of Neurosurgery and Otolaryngology at NYU School of Medicine.  After receiving his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in 1988, Dr. Golfinos completed a residency in neurosurgery at Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix, Ariz.  In 1995, he joined the NYU faculty, where his practice is devoted solely to multi-modality treatment of brain tumors, including primary brain tumors, metastatic tumors, acoustic neuromas, and skull-base tumors.  He also serves as an attending surgeon in neurosurgery at Bellevue Hospital Center and at the Manhattan Veterans Administration Medical Center, both located in New York City.  Dr. Golfinos is coauthor of approximately 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications and is co-editor of the textbook Head Injury.  He has served as the chairman of the Young Neurosurgeons Committee of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.  For seven consecutive years, 1999-2006, he was listed in the Castle-Connolly Guide to Best Doctors - New York.   Dr. Golfinos' NYU Web site

Andrew D. Rosenberg, MD
Andrew D. Rosenberg is Professor of Anesthesiology and Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU School of Medicine.  He also serves as Executive Vice-Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology.  Dr. Rosenberg studied medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, N.Y., graduating in 1979.  He then completed a residency in orthopedics at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases and a residency in anesthesiology at NYU School of Medicine.  He remained at NYU to pursue a fellowship in cardiac anesthesiology.  Dr. Rosenberg joined the NYU faculty in 1997, where he is a clinician, teacher, and researcher.  His major research interests are orthopedic anesthesia, regional anesthesia, infection control, and blood transfusion.  In addition, he is Chairman of Anesthesiology and Director of Pain Management Services at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.  Dr. Rosenberg is the author or coauthor of numerous papers, book chapters, books, and monographs on anesthesia and has presented hundreds of scientific exhibits, lectures, and workshops in the U.S. and abroad.  Dr. Rosenberg's NYU Web site

Steven R. Hofstetter, MD, FACS
Dr. Steven R. Hofstetter is Associate Professor and Vice Chairman of Surgery at NYU School of Medicine and Surgeon-in-Chief at NYU Hospitals Center.  Dr. Hofstetter earned his medical degree from Upstate Medical Center of the State University of New York, Syracuse, N.Y., in 1967.  He then completed a residency in surgery at NYU Medical Center.  From 1976-78, he served as a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and as Chief of the General Surgery Service at Patterson Army Hospital, Fort Monmouth, N.J.  He returned to NYU in 1978, joining the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Surgery.  He has also served as Executive Director of Perioperative Services at NYU Hospitals Center, Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital and Co-Director of the Shock and Trauma Unit at Bellevue Hospitals Center.  Dr. Hofstetter has been a visiting professor at Hadassah University Hospital in Israel, the University of Rome Polyclinico Hospital in Italy, and the University of the Philippines in Manila and has authored or coauthored more than two dozen peer-reviewed publications on various aspects of surgery.
